How You Can Support Narika's

Legal Referral Network

 

 

Narika is working to increase legal resources for the over 2,000 callers annually to our helpline. Below are a few ways that we seek your support to assist those clients who need legal services.

 

Connect Narika with your legal networks

• Pass along your legal contacts to Narika and we will contact them to join our network. We are looking for pro-bono and sliding scale services. Attorneys need not be South Asian.
  

• Forward the attached form to your contacts or email narika@narika.org for an electronic copy.
  

Donate to our Legal Support Fund ( Goal: $15,000)

§ A majority of the clients who come to Narika do not qualify for free legal aid as joint family income is used as a determining factor for legal services, even though she may not have access to the income. For these clients, we work to find low-cost or pro bono services. Often, even attorneys offer low-cost services require a retainer.

§ We hope to use money from the Legal Support Fund to help cover these immediate expenses as a no interest loan. This immediate aid will help her focus on moving forward and taking care of her own and her children's more critical needs.

Volunteer to help us build the Legal Referral Network ( Goal: 5 volunteers)

• We are looking for a group of volunteer attorneys to help us continue the work we started tonight.
  

• Contact large Bay Are firms to connect with their Pro Bono coordinators and build a strategy to develop those contacts.
  

• Majority of the work can be done via email. Contact Roopa, Narika's Women's Advocate at narika@narika.org or at 510-444-6048 if you are interested and she will be the primary contact for this network.
