Community Outreach & Education

Our mission is to prevent domestic violence by providing community members with education and resources to lead violence-free lives. Our different programs include:

Healthy Families Healthy Communities

Healthcare Provider Outreach

Narika is looking for volunteers to join our healthcare outreach project committee. We need your input and help to educate physicians, specifically South Asian physicians that work with South Asian populations, on how to recognize and screen for domestic violence in a culturally appropriate way.

Mother's Group

Narika's Mother's Group promotes healthy well-being within the South Asian community. The group provides a space for new mothers to voice their concerns and ask questions about mothering and infant care and is facilitated by physicians from Kaiser Permenante.

Financial Planning Seminar

Narika's free financial planning seminar educates attendees on how to make practical financial decisions with easy tools. Experts from the fields of Financial and Estate Planning discuss securing your credit and keeping it safe, practical tips on saving for the future, estate planning tips and protecting your assets for the next generation.

Self-defense Class

Narika's women-only self-defense workshop stresses the importance of knowing your surroundings, being aware of potentially dangerous situations and looking at things from a different perspective, as someone who is in control rather than a victim. The class will cover self-defense techniques that really work and some common sense preventative measures to incorporate into your lifestyle.

Faith Based Community Outreach

Narika partners with different religious groups within the South Asian community to develop faith-sensitive programs for violence-free living.

Narika Speaker's Bureau

Our Speaker's Bureau provides training, workshops and consultation to medical or mental health professionals, domestic violence agencies, police departments, youth and community organizations, and educational institutions in order to increase cultural sensitivity and competence. Narika also provides technical assistance to women in rural areas to assist them in establishing their own networks based on our model.

Men's Outreach

Trained volunteers conduct workshops and discussions around cultural and community pressures that perpetuate violent behaviors; and the devastating effects of violence in the home on the male psyche.

Media Campaign

Narika's media campaign strives to mobilize South Asians in the fight against domestic violence. The campaign includes:

  • Print advertisements in South Asian publications
  • A 60-second made-for-television public service announcement
  • Public Service announcements on Hindi, English and Punjabi radio programs
